Oxford Street Jam Buster (London)

SUSTRACO proposes a ULR Tram system running the length of Oxford Street. It would provide connection with five Underground Lines at four stations and will relieve congestion on part of the Central Line. Intense service will allow the removal of all road traffic during shopping hours.  Zero emission trams provide a radical improvement to the environment for shoppers, workers and residents alike.

The proposed tramway project is for the rehabilitation of an existing tram route (the Route) which connects the Railway Station in the southern part of the City with one of the gates of the Port, known as Poarta 6, which provides access to the southern part of the Port. Part of the Route runs parallel to one of the largest Boulevards in the City, “1st of May Boulevard”, which provides the main route out of the City in the direction of Eforie and Mangalia. The Route (known originally as the 104 route) was commissioned at the end of 1996 and ran from that date until it was suspended in February 2003.
Cheltenham famous for its' horse racing could be famous for its high quality tram system.  SUSTRACO is working closely with the University, Chamber of Commerce and other interested parties.  The first section of route would connect the race course to the mainline railway in the town.  Using a disused railway alignment that was last used in the 1960's, this follows on from A revolutionary project, conceived jointly between Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce and Professor Frank Chambers, Head of the University of Gloucestershire’s Centre for Environmental Change and Quaternary Research, come second out of 26 university entrants in a national competition for innovation and reducing carbon emissions.
